Our story began in October 1950 when we met at a friend’s birthday party. A few months later we knew we were meant to be together. We were engaged in February 1951, and married on June 9, 1951. That was the start of almost 67 years of wonderful marriage.

After four beautiful babies, a tour in Korea with the Army and my husband graduating from Clemson University in 1957, we settled in Gaston County in 1967.

Our children are James Lyles Jr., (deceased), Catherine Lineberger and her husband John, Edward Lyles, Lynne Cloninger and her husband Barry and grandchildren Keith Lineberger and wife Brooke, Blake Lineberger, Heather Kaylor, and Gary Meadows and wife Alyssa. We also have three very special great grandchildren: Seth Kaylor, Ava Lineberger and Harper Meadows. We have so many memories with all of them.

Our marriage has probably given us everything we wanted in life, but it didn’t just happen. You have to work at it. To us, a smile and soft spoken words at the beginning of the day are special. There is no number one or number two. Work things out together and support each other during times of heartache. A bit of humor never hurts either so never yell at each other unless the house is on fire.

Most important of all, always give thanks to our Heavenly Father for each day and all His wonderful blessings. His love is the greatest love of all.
