'Men are lazy, drunken and selfish': Suffragette gives HILARIOUS marriage advice to women
WITH a century passing since women got the vote a pamphlet on marriage advice from a suffragette wife has emerged and gone viral.
The leaflet is aimed at ‘young ladies’ and has eight tips, and is currently on display in the Pontypridd Museum in Wales.
Some of the best professions include window fitters
A photo of the pamphlet was shared on twitter and has since gone viral, racking up more than 8,000 likes.
Ironically the first piece of advice is “Do not marry at all.”
It then goes on to warn women against certain types of men, if they have to wed.
The sorts of men women should steer clear of are ‘flirts’, ‘beauty men’ and ‘football enthusiasts’.
It goes on to suggest the best varieties of guys would be window cleaners, coal getters, and should be “strong”.
The advice starts with a warning against marriage
The anonymous wife warns women “not to expect too much”, and describes men as “’lazy, selfish, thoughtless, lying, drunken, clumsy, heavy-footed, rough, unmanly brutes, and need taming”.
She goes on to say many bachelors are this way, but some are worse.
Despite all men’s misgivings, the espouses the age-old wisdom that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
She tells prospective wives to “feed the brute”.
In a back-handed compliment, she also says that this is the best way to deal with dogs.
Both men and dogs should be fed well
She finishes the pamphlet by saying it is wiser not to chance marriage, as it isn’t worth the risk.
People have been taking the advice on board, with one person replying on social media: “In my head I’m number 3 but suspect in reality I’m number 4.”
Another said: “I agree, feed me and I’ll swill the yard.”
This woman replied: “Im after the window cleaners now.”
Others thought their prospects may have improved, posting: “Come & get me ladies…bona fide Yard Swiller here. Form an orderly queue.”
