A woman has shared her devastation after she caught her husband having sex with a ‘beautiful, thin woman’ he met at the gym.

The nurse, 27, who lives in the US, revealed she heard her husband, 34, and the woman having sex in their marital bed after she returned home early from a hospital shift.

Posting on Reddit, she explained she was hesitant to leave her marriage because she thinks of herself as an ‘ugly’ woman and believes she ‘can’t do better’ – a sentiment that prompted backlash from fellow users who urged her to take a stand.

She wrote: ‘I feel so worthless and ugly and stupid. I don’t even know how to proceed. On one hand I want to divorce him and never see him again, but on the other hand, I’m an ugly woman… it’s not like I can do better. I just want to die.’

The wife explained her husband had recently started working out more and had met a ‘female friend’ who he had invited home for dinner the previous week.

She wrote: ‘She’s beautiful and thin and everything I am not, which instantly made me feel horrible.

‘So, I talked to him about it. He encouraged me to build my confidence and reassured me he loved me and would always be loyal to me.’

However the following week the obstetrics nurse returned home to find women’s sneakers in the garage.

Her confession with met with sympathy from users online, many of whom had been in similar situations and advised her to leave. They added that looks have nothing to do with fidelity

‘I walked into the laundry room from the garage and sort of tiptoed around the house before going upstairs,’ she said.

‘They were having sex. In our bed. With a framed picture from our wedding above the nightstand next to it.’

Choosing not to confront them, she returned to the hospital where she took to Reddit to ask for advice.

One person said: ‘I’m so so sorry, sweetheart. I’m a nurse (male) and also found my (now ex) wife cheating with her Ironman triathlon training partner.

People commenting were quick to point out that she is only 27, and still has the chance to find love again

‘All I can tell you is that it does and WILL get better. There will always be scars but you WILL find happiness again. Find family, friends, whoever, and cry. Just cry. It’s ok to cry. Do not succumb to the darkness.’

Many were quick to praise her for her high-pressure job, adding:  ‘You are a nurse and help to bring life into the world. You’re so damn beautiful in that regard alone and I am so sure there’s SO much more.’

Many urged her to divorce her husband.

‘No one deserves to be cheated on. Someone who betrays your trust that way is an ugly person – regardless of what they look like on the outside. And what’s on the inside is a lot harder to change than what’s on the outside’ one said.

They continued: ‘Also, why are you so afraid of being alone? There is a lot of freedom with being single.’

Another wrote: ‘The biggest problem to staying with him is the CONSTANT assault on your own self-worth. If you think it’s bad being cheated on – staying with a cheater will f*****g permanently RUIN your sense of self-worth.

‘You are still young – don’t waste that time.’

While most of the comments were positive and supportive, some were cruel and called the nurse a 'disgusting lard blob'

However a handful cruelly attacked the woman, with one writing: ‘I think why the f**k is he with that disgusting lard blob? Especially if he’s fit.

‘Nobody wants to be with fat ugly people except other fat ugly people who have no choice.’

The responses prompted the woman to update her post, asking for understanding.

She added: ‘I still have no idea what I am going to do and I know everyone wants me to leave, but a marriage is more than can be illustrated with a couple of words on a website.

‘He was a great husband and I can’t help but feel at fault for neglecting myself weight-wise. I don’t know if I will stay, but that’s all I really know right now.’

The nurse then edited her post a second time to ask people to stop insulting her over her weight and her behavior.

‘I didn’t expect this to blow up as much as it did and while I’m incredibly grateful for all the nice and supportive comments…’ she wrote, before adding: ‘Please please please stop messaging me about how I should stop eating or laugh at me for expecting a faithful husband while being overweight.

‘It is incredibly upsetting and I am already going through a lot.’
