What can’t Alex Rodriguez do? He was an all-time great baseball player and does a superb job covering the MLB for ESPN and FOX. He offers a unique perspective of the game that translates well with listeners. Not to mention he’s dating Jennifer Lopez.
No worries, folks. We found an A-Rod flaw in the form of advice he gave to one Patrick Mahomes. He once told the future Chiefs superstar quarterback and MVP contender that football wasn’t the best thing to pursue, and that he ought to stick with baseball instead.
WAIT… WHAT?
“‘There is no money, there is no future, there is no history in football,” Rodriguez recalled of what he told a younger Mahomes.
“Well, he reminded me of that recently and, boy, am I glad he did not listen to me!”
Sheesh. Talk about a colossal error in judgment.
To be fair to A-Rod, Mahomes was drafted by the Tigers in 2014 (in the 37th round, but still), and we fully understand the 14-time All-Star’s commitment to the game of baseball. But he could’ve very easily deprived NFL fans of one of the brightest young stars in the game.
Perhaps Mahomes has a little extra motivation heading into Los Angeles for tonight’s long-awaited matchup against the Rams. He can remind Mr. Rodriguez one more time that listening to your elders can be a bit overrated every now and then.
