Pope in Ireland: Francis shares tips for a happy marriage
The Pope has some advice to offer to young couples: it’s OK to fight, just make peace before the end of the day.
Pope Francis, on his first day of a historic visit to Ireland, was joined at a service in Dublin by 400 young couples, either recently married or engaged.
“A marriage where people don’t fight is really a bit boring,” he joked, drawing laughter from the crowd.

“But the secret – and you may throw dishes at each other – but the secret is to make peace before the end of the day.
“And to make peace it’s not necessary to talk – just simply stroke them in that way and peace is made.
“And you know why? Because if you don’t make peace before going to bed then the Cold War of the previous day is too dangerous, and then rancour begins.
“Fight as much as you want, have as many arguments as you want, but at night make peace.
“You mustn’t forget that.”
The pontiff is on a two-day visit to Ireland, dominated by the child abuse scandal in the Catholic Church.
