Liverpool fans are being warned against marriage scammers when they travel to Kiev

And it’s feared the fake marriage fraudsters may try to seduce thousands of fans online before they leave the UK and head to Kiev for the May 26 clash.

Previous cases show scammers work these sites – and bleed the trusting blokes dry.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued a warning to fans heading to the Ukraine capital, adding that victims of such scams are “unlikely to recover their money”.

A spokesperson said:  “Exercise caution when travelling to Ukraine for a relationship initiated via the internet. There have been incidents of marriage fraud and attempted extortion affecting foreign nationals.

“You should be particularly vigilant if the person is uncontactable face-to-face or they ask you to send money urgently (for example, they may say that they’ve been arrested or have fallen ill).

“Unfortunately, it’s very unlikely you’ll be able to recover your money if you’re a victim of such a scam.”

But it’s not just fake brides who plan to target Liverpool fans; other crooks are also known to spike tourists’ drinks with drugs so they can be mugged or even sexually abused.

The UK government says Kiev – where Liverpool will play Real Madrid in just under three weeks – is one of the country’s crime hot-spots.

Travel advice states: “Travellers of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent and individuals belonging to religious minorities should take extra care.

“Be alert to the possibility of street crime and petty theft, which is on the increase in Kiev.

“Foreigners may appear to be lucrative targets. Where possible, avoid walking alone late at night in dark or poorly lit streets. Keep valuables and cash safe and out of sight, especially in crowded areas, tourist spots, and on public transport, where pickpockets and bag snatchers operate.”

And the FCO says of the roads in Ukraine: “Local driving standards are poor. Street lights are weak, speed limits, traffic lights and road signs are often ignored, and drivers rarely indicate before manoeuvring.

“There are a high number of traffic accidents, including fatalities. Speeding, drink driving and infrequent use of helmets, seat belts and child restraints in vehicles are the main contributing factors.”
